State of the States

For over four hundred years, the North American continent has been the promised land in one way or another. Columbus and his ships, after a dangerous voyage, discovered this place and it caught the imagination of the old world. Its been fought over, bled for, died for, defended, and remained till modern times a bastion of liberty and freedom for the peoples of the world.

No foreign invader has ever been able to get a lasting foothold here, and like England of old, has never been conquered and ruled by those who would oppress.

No, it has taken a domestic enemy to erode the freedoms we’ve enjoyed for so long. Foreign enemies couldn’t do it. We had to do it ourselves.

How is it that freedoms so hard won can be so easily discarded? The values and faith that built this country, that have made her a great nation, even with the inevitable drawbacks and mistakes that are part of being human, are under constant attack by domestic enemies who claim to be “for the working man.”

The problem is that those policies that liberals and socialists would put in place deny the “working man” the incentive and tools he needs to continue to be the backbone of the nation. People need incentive to “get their gumption up,” a reason to fight, to excel, and to prosper.

Recently, we got another glimpse into the twisted mindset of the president, a man who has prospered in this system that he hates so much. During a speech, Mr. Obama said that those who were successful did not gain that success on their own…a statement that one could accept. But he attributed their success, not to mothers, fathers, teachers and friends only…he believes that the major player in your success was a beneficent and all powerful government. The Fatherland.

According to his philosophy, it is government, not God and family, who support you, teach you, guide you, and shelter you.

It’s not so much the policies (which are bad enough) that threaten the very fiber of our existence as a nation and the future of our way of life. It is the base mentality that is behind it. That, and the fact that so many people are accepting this warped and failed philosophy without even considering the consequences.

Some people, used to being coddled and taken care of, see hard work as a terrible thing, and not as a way to prosperity. If you were to ask them if they’d like to win the lottery and have millions of dollars, they’d say “of course.” But, that same success isn’t worth working for. With work and thought, that bounty that they want is assured. A certainty almost. With the lottery it’s a matter of sheer luck. Yet instead of taking the path of certainty, they would rather depend on the lottery and wait, while the government pays their bills and feeds their children, and they sit in a chair.

These people come from all ethnic and social backgrounds. They’re the ones that were spoken of when it was said by a political thinker long ago that a democratic nation would prosper only so long as the people didn’t know that they could vote themselves largesse from the government till. And look! That’s exactly what is happening. Unscrupulous politicians use that as a way to get power, and to keep it. They ridicule their opponents and tell bare faced lies in order to get ignorant people to vote for them. “If you don’t vote for me, He’ll take away your free check!”

This is an election year. In just a few short weeks, we’ll go to the polls to either reelect a president who forces a failed system down our throats, or elect a better president who can begin the long process of reversing and repairing the damage done to our nation. But the other problems, the main ones, the ideology that has crept into so many of our citizens’ minds…can that be repaired? Or has the Liberal Socialist mindset become too engrained to be weeded out and corrected?

Its seems sometimes that the nation has fallen so far that we can never come back. That’s not the case…yet. But it’ll take good, honest American patriots standing together and doing the right thing to make the difference that needs to be made.

Can we reasonably expect that unity on a national level? One would hope so, but I have my doubts. There has been a lot of damage done to national unity. We may need to fall back on the ability of the States to defend and reunite a shattered nation. I guess we’ll have to wait and see if “The People” can stand up, and stand together. We desperately need that unity, on some level, if not on a national level, at the very least on the State level. But the question is…what is the state of the States?

Remember, “All it takes for evil to triumph in the world is for good men (people) to do nothing” Doing nothing in the face of evil is itself evil.
