Bill Clinton. The name itself is enough to stir emotions in most people. To some, he’s a hero who presided over a robust economy and moved to the right to gain reelection. To others, he is an immoral scalawag who forever sullied the office of the President with his myriad scandals and peccadilloes.

I submit that he may be something else. A patriot. That’s right. I said it. A patriot.

Recently, Mr. Clinton has been repeatedly torpedoing President Obama. He recently stated in reference to the presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney’s business career at Bain Capital:

“I don’t think that we ought to get into the position where we say ‘This is bad work. This is good work’” and added,

“The man who has been governor and had a sterling business career crosses the qualification threshold”

Why is Bill Clinton saying these things? Why now?

It can be argued that it is personal and that Clinton does not particularly like Obama given the heated primary battle endured by his wife, Hillary Clinton. And, Mr. Clinton did in fact state during a conversation with Ted Kennedy that “a few years ago this guy would have been getting us coffee” in reference to Obama. It seems clear that there is no love affair here.

The idea has also been put forward that Clinton is hoping to help Mrs. Clinton who may still have presidential aspirations. This makes very little sense since the Democrats are not going to boot Obama off the ticket. If Obama wins reelection, Hillary would have to wait until 2016 at which time she would not be running against Obama. If Obama loses, Hillary would have to wait until 2016 to run against an incumbent Mitt Romney. Neither of these scenarios would be a good reason for Bill Clinton to bash Obama now.

One of Clinton’s advisers attempted to explain it with the following statement:

“He’s 65 years old”

Yes he is. He is 65 years old. He is also, love him or hate him, one of the sharpest political minds of the 20th century. I have listened to him speak on many occasions, most recently, a few weeks ago. He is as sharp as ever. If there are flies on Bill Clinton you had better believe that they are paying him rent.

I think something Bill Clinton said recently gives a startling clue to his real motive:

“And, I care about the long term debt of the country a lot. Remember me, I’m the only guy that gave you four surplus budgets out of the eight I sent.”

Forget for a minute the fact that he had to be dragged kicking and screaming by a Republican congress to produce those budgets. That is not germain to this discussion. Forget about Clinton’s propensity for self aggrandizement for that too is not pertinent here.

Hidden amongst the braggadocio of the above statement is what I believe to be the “smoking gun,” the reason that Bill Clinton has left the Democrat reservation and struck out on his own. He “cares about the long term debt of the country a lot.”

I believe that in criticizing Obama and his record, Bill Clinton is doing his part to ensure that somebody else, anybody, is president next year. I believe that Bill Clinton is fully aware that Obama is incompetent and unfit for the office. I believe that Bill Clinton has decided that Obama is bad for the country and he is doing everything he can to see him lose.

I always believed that Bill Clinton was a liberal and carried all the baggage that goes along with that. I never believed for a second that he was a Marxist or that he had bad intentions towards America. I believe that he sees Obama for a Marxist and a destroyer. If I am correct in my analysis, Bill Clinton is nothing less than a true American Patriot.
